Friday Night In with Taline from Hippie Lane
I discovered Taline and Hippie Lane via a friend's mutual love of raw vegan food porn. Taline creates the most incredible vegan-friendly desserts and snacks and shares them across Instagram for all to dream about devouring. For those who don't like to dream, but do, you're in luck! Taline will be releasing a recipe app real soon. Keep an eye out for that because if the Instagram pictures are anything to go by, it's going to be absolutely gorgeous!
So before you go scrolling her Instagram feed for a good long while, enjoy finding out all about Taline and how Hippie Lane has come about.
Happy Friday Night In!
Please share a little about yourself
I’m an active mum of two who is passionate about good food and health. I’m the type that likes to get through my whole to-do list in a day, and fully commit myself to whatever project I have going on. I love the company of friends and family and am a loyal and sincere friend. I probably do too much and need to find a balance between work and rest. I love fashion and aesthetics and perhaps a little too addicted to travel.
How did your business come about?
About 4 years ago, I found out that I had intolerances to gluten, eggs and diary. Being a sweet tooth, the first thing that came to mind was how I was going to enjoy a sweet fix. I got thinking about how I could use alternative flours, nuts and wholefoods to make sweets that were free of eggs, butter, wheat and refined sugar. I got experimenting and came up with some great tasting alternatives. That’s how Hippie Lane came to life.
Where did ‘Hippie Lane’ come from?
When I began making vegan treats, alternative treats were not in the mainstream market. Baking with buckwheat flour and using activated ingredients 5 years ago was something a little left of center and more suited to the health conscious hippie culture. I was essentially bringing alternative treats to the mainstream market, so it was kind of like a walk down hippie lane.
These days, raw and vegan treats are more fashionable. To me, Hippie Lane now comes to mean ‘hipster’ or ‘in style’. Hence the re-branding and website re-launch.
The most rewarding part of your job?
The reaction when people try one of my treats. Most people don’t expect that a raw vegan chocolate or baked cookie can taste as good as it does. I find their unexpected delight really satisfying. I also love offering health conscious people something they can enjoy without the guilt.
What haven’t you done yet that you wish you could?
I’d love to live abroad, to be anonymous in a new city and learn the local language.
Favourite place in the world?
Ooh, that’s a hard one! There are so many! It has to be Paris.
If you were a spice, which would you be?
Cinnamon – Warm, comforting and SPICY
5 things you can’t live without?
Family & Friends
+ one more - Fashion
If you could choose to eat anything in the world for your next meal, what would it be?
I’m really simple. I would say some oven baked potato chips, a fresh salad and a platter of good quality sushi. I would follow it up with a raw chocolate treat.
What was for breakfast?
Acai smoothie bowl with a sprinkle of Hippie Lane Rawnola clusters and fresh berries.
How would you classify your eating style?
I don’t follow a particular diet plan, I probably eat most things in moderation. You could say I eat an organic wholefood diet that consists of a variety of fresh unprocessed food that’s free of wheat, dairy and refined sugar.
Your favourite way to stay active?
I love outdoor walks, pilates, and ocean swims.
Your absolute favourite dessert?
Something raw! Probably a simple raw chocolate cheesecake or my cookies and cream slice. Equal first!
Your best advice for living a wholesome, healthy lifestyle?
Take things slowly. Eat more plants. Limit meat. Cut out processed food and take notice of how much sugar you consume and reduce it as much as possible.
