Friday Night In with Kayla Itsines
If you're into fitness, just starting out, trying to lose weight, or not getting the results you want from your current workout regime, then Kayla is your answer.
I came across Kayla's Instagram account earlier this year. She is a personal trainer based in Adelaide and trains women to achieve a certain appearance/body style. Thousands of women have worked with her, and/or used her downloadable program to achieve a lean, toned physique.
She practices what she preaches too.
So I bought her Bikini Body workout program recently to trial and despite their short 28 minute duration, it was honestly one of the most intense workouts I've done. There is no doubt in my mind that this program would get you results. However as it's a high intensity interval training plan, it's certainly not for the faint-hearted.
You can do the sessions at the gym, home or park as you only need a few pieces of equipment.
It's great to see a fitness professional with a real and honest approach to health and fitness amongst the misguided and sometimes unsafe advice floating around the web. Find out more about Kayla below!
How did the Bikini Body Guides come about?
I had been personal training for a long time and had developed somewhat of a large online following. The email questions were coming in and I became upset that I couldn’t actually service them all. I was already working over 60 hour weeks with my 1 on 1 clients and I literally couldn’t even afford an extra minute to brush my hair some days. On my weekends over the next 6-9 months I planned them and created them with assistance of a few key people.
The most rewarding part of your job?
Without a doubt the most rewarding part is seeing the transformation people go through both physically but more importantly psychologically. The new found confidence and mental strength they find makes me so happy.
What haven’t you done yet that you wish you could?
I have always wanted to have travel to Greece but recently my boyfriend made this come true and we are booked in for a trip later this year.
Favourite place in the world?
Greece haha ^^
If you were a spice, which would you be?
Mint. Purely because I love it more than any other and it tastes delicious in healthy drinks.
5 things you can’t live without?
My dog Ace and my partner Tobi
What do you indulge in?
I have a weak spot for Tiramisu, which is a Greek coffee flavored dessert. Because I am lactose intolerant and this has dairy in it, I can only have it once every so often… but this is probably a good thing.
If you’re not at the gym, you’re usually…….?
At the dog park with my baby Siberian Husky.
If you could choose to eat anything in the world for your next meal, what would it be?
Avgolemono. This is a healthy Greek lemon flavored rice soup. This is the most popular dish at my house between my partner and I.
What was for breakfast?
Eggs on toast with, “lemony” avocado, tomato and spinach leaves. :)
How would you classify your eating style?
My eating style is relatively structured and because of this and my broad understanding of nutrition it allows much more variety than most other styles of eating.
The one ‘must-do’ exercise move you’d like everybody to do if they could, and why?
Box jumps…the single most fulfilling exercise. I remember learning to do these higher and higher. Nothing is more exciting than achieving a new personal best jump height.
What are your top 3 tips for getting results from your training?
And if you wanted a 4th…probably more consistency. The training and eating programs are very simple and don’t require a huge amount of time day to day. Simply do things the way they are listed, do them right and keep them right. The change will come.
Your best advice for those just starting out, or getting back into exercise after a long time off?
Be patient and be smart. Don’t expect it to be easy and don’t think that your body will immediately develop a habit. It takes time to re-write poor lifestyle patterns and it takes time to see significant results. The road to inner happiness isn’t a straight one it’s a curvy, hilly drive.
How can readers find you?
Everywhere on the internet :)
