Friday Night In with Stefanie from the Food Fix Up APP
I came across Food Fix Up as an Instagram account. An image caught my eye and immediately I was drawn into the stunning photography. And more importantly, the items being photographed - healthy, delicious, colourful wholefoods. So I followed the account enjoying the photos, until I noticed that there was an app coming out and that all the images I saw on the account was going to be featured in it. The app is called Food Fix Up and its simply beautiful. Just take a look at some of the snapshots below for the creations you can make! There's vegan, paleo, vegetarian and meat lovers dishes in there - and they're all divine!
So it was about time that I shared this gem of an app with you, and introduced you to the brains and beauty behind the scenes - Stefanie.
Happy Friday Night In!
Please share a little about yourself
I’m a wife and mama to a three year old that keeps me on my toes! I originally came from London but after backpacking here decided it was too lovely to leave and have pretty much been here ever since.
How did Food Fix Up come about?
I’d really gotten into educating myself about healthy food after having my daughter and my Dad sadly passing away at an awfully young age. I’d always enjoyed cooking but just began to cut out all the rubbish. As our health flourished I wanted to spread the word so began my instagram account @foodfixup.. everything else has just led on from that.
What makes Food Fix Up different?
I suppose food fix up is different in that we include meat in our recipes which a lot of other health food app’s don’t, we update very regularly and we believe our food is the tastiest!
The most rewarding part of your job?
I absolutely love when people tag me in their food fix up creations - they say the nicest things. The response I've had from the app so far is overwhelmingly positive and to think that I might be helping someone make healthier food choices is all I can ask for really.
What haven’t you done yet that you wish you could?
There is so much I haven’t done yet that I want to. This year is all about trying to meditate (trying being the operative word here), I’m always on the go and really want to take some time to turn inwards so to speak. I’d also like to train with cirque du soleil..
Favourite place in the world?
I’d have to say Bondi. I’ve travelled the world and been to some beautiful places but the feeling I get when I’m coming home from a trip afar is always so joyful. I love the mix of cultures and personalities and the fact it’s pretty normal to see someone riding a bike, surfboard underarm and a guitar slung across their back - brilliant!
If you were a spice, which would you be?
If I were a spice I would surely be cumin, earthy but packs a punch.
5 things you can’t live without?
Photos of my Dad, my bike, a sharp knife, herbal tea and good weather.
If you could choose to eat anything in the world for your next meal, what would it be?
Haha that’s a really hard one as I always listen to my yearnings when it comes to food so I eat what I want to eat at every meal! Erm.. ok, maybe some really good Authentic Italian pizza, I don’t eat gluten or dairy often but sometimes I just want pizza - and I have it!
What was for breakfast?
Breakfast today was my usual go to when I need some sustenance for a big day ahead, it starts with a green juice; all veg with a little apple cider vinegar for sweetness followed a couple of slices of the app’s Olive and Rosemary Focaccia with poached eggs, grilled tomatoes and fresh herbs. So delish.
How would you classify your eating style?
Well I eat meat and grains in moderation along with abundant vegetables and some fruit so I guess I’d say well rounded!
Your favourite way to stay active?
As my instagram often shows I absolutely love yoga, I’ve been practising for a few years now and love that it’s a never ending journey of skill, both in terms of physicality and connecting with your spirituality. I also love training with Agoga in Bondi, I’d never been much of a ‘gym’ person before but Agoga is all about multi-plane movement so absolutely brilliant for everyone and their classes are so inspiring and fun, the time just flies when I’m there.
What are your top 2 favourites recipes from your app?
Ooh, that’s hard. I really don’t have two favourites but if I absolutely had to choose I’d say the Banana Salted Caramel Smoothie Bowl because it takes minutes to make and the taste is just unbelievable. The second one would be the Snapper Ceviche with Mango and Pomegranate Salsa, again it’s super simple to make, the whole dish is raw so it’s really hydrating and fresh and it’s just delicious!
Your best advice for eating well?
Try to avoid anything thats been highly processed and has any ingredients you don’t recognise. Not everyone can be a strict vegan, or paleo.. we all have different needs but if you try to eat food thats as close to it’s natural state as you can your body will thank you over and over.
How can readers get the app?
You can download the app from the app store or google play, find the links on our website www.foodfixup.com
