Review: The Source Bulk Foods
By Lucy Marks,
The latest health-food craze is no longer a single ‘super-food’, rather a shop full of them! And, if it’s not in a suburb near you, its probably coming; The Source Bulk Foods is taking the east coast of Australia by storm, with little outlook of dying down.
When Paul and Emma started the remarkable franchise, they never intended on using the word ‘source’ lightly; the ever-growing number of specialized stores stock over 350 products each. With their comprehensive range I really don’t know what would take me longer; naming all the products they do have, or coming up with ones they don’t!
Himalayan rock salt? Yep.
Puffed Amaranth? Uh huh.
Wheat grass? Sure thing.
Hulled Hemp seeds? Of course.
Bee pollen? Yep, that too.
Their supplies range from health foods, to cleaning and personal care products, and the wonderful thing is they are all either biodynamic, organic or chemical free!
If you’re not blown away by The Source’s product range, you will be by their layout; if you’re like me and love all things clean, neat and well organized (whilst also being in denial about your OCD), you’ll appreciate the symmetry of the store. Rows upon rows of white tubs line the room, each accessorized with the appropriate serving utensil, and paper-bags are never out of reach (did I mention they’re plastic bag free?) All you have to do is scoop up as little, or as much as you fancy, record the product code and skip to the counter, you’ll be that content!
Of course, The Source is also equipped with jars, as well as plastic and glass bottles, just incase you’re in to pick up some unhulled tahini, organic honey, macadamia oil, etc.
What’s more, as you make your way around the aisles, you’re bound to come across a milling station where you can mill your own flour, grind your own coffee and create your own nut-butter; they’ve got freshness well and truly covered.
The Source is a virtuous experience and puts the fun back into grocery shopping, think: Willy Wonka goes to a Dietician, is transformed into a health-food protégé and opens up shop (p.s he still stocks a small selection of treats!!). And what excites me the most is that we don’t need a golden ticket to experience it, because I’m going back next week! And the week after that. And probably for the rest of my life.
Jump onto their website for more info and store locations, so you can experience the novelty too.
