Review- fitbit zip
This year, I was gifted a FitBit Zip for my birthday. From the second I opened it, I knew this was going to be a lifelong friendship. Now, 4 months later, I’ve been walking, jogging, running (and admittedly) lounging around with my trusty hot pink personal trainer.
What makes it different to other fitness trackers?
Remember Tamagotchis? The FitBit Zip is a low-maintenance, personal trainer look alike! The Zip itself is smooth and glossy, however it comes with a silicon cover with a sturdy clip. Unlike most fitness trackers, the Zip is not a wristband, but rather a small, round and portable tracker that can be easily clipped onto the pocket of your jeans or the inside of a jacket. In fact, it’s small enough to be worn pretty much anywhere! It comes in 4 colours: blue, lime, magenta and charcoal. It has a small LCD screen and is rain and sweat proof, with a battery life of 4-6 months.
The Zip is a zero-maintenance log of how many steps you’ve taken, distance travelled and calories burned. There is a smiley-face icon which changes its smile from small to grand depending on your activity level. If you’ve been active, the smile will be large! Feeling lazy and the icon will stick its tongue out cheekily to let you know it’s time to get moving. By gently tapping the screen, you are able to move through each feature; steps, clock, distance travelled and calories burned. At midnight, the Zip automatically resets to start again the next day. All the data from your Zip can be wirelessly synced through Bluetooth onto your phone, which means there is no need to worry about manually logging in your data.
- Small and discrete
- Tracks distance travelled, calories burned and steps taken each day
- Wirelessly Synchronizes data to FitBit mobile phone app or computer
- Excellent motivator
- The LCD screen does not have a backlight, which means the screen cannot be seen in the dark
- The Zip does not register other activity besides aerobic walking or running, such as cycling or weight training
- Does not track sleeping
- Because it’s so discrete, you may forget to put it on/take it off
Whether you’re a fitness fanatic or a self-proclaimed couch potato, the FitBit Zip is designed to help motivate and improve activity levels for all, to help reach the recommended 10 000 steps every day. It is a fun, discrete, motivating and stylish take on the classic pedometer. If you’re like me and sometimes need that extra bit of motivation, one look at your FitBit Zip and you’ll want to turn that cheeky grin into a wide smile. On your mark, get set, GO!
