Thr1ve Meal Delivery Review: Larina Tries It!
You might have heard of Thr1ve before? They have takeaway restaurants in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra. Serving up food that’s all about being wholesome, fresh, natural, and made to make you feel good. Just as nature intended. With it’s primal/paleo twist, the food is also gluten free and all carbohydrates have been carefully chosen to provide sustained energy. No blood sugar spikes here!
But what you may not know is they’re now doing meal delivery! Fresh, ready-to-eat meals are sent straight to your door. So, of course, I had to try them out!
Thr1ve were very generous and sent me a large variety, so I ate Thr1ve for a week and these are my thoughts to help you decide if it’s worth a try...
You’ll find all main meals have a decent, if not large serve of protein. The lowest protein meal is the Vegetarian Casserole with 8.6g of protein, but most range between 20-44g of protein per meal. What does this mean? It means for the average person, you’re getting a great dose of satiating protein from quality sources to help keep you full and meet your dietary needs for the day.
The recommended average adult female and male protein intakes are 46g and 64g respectively (1). Most Australians consume more than this on a typical day, which is great because higher protein diets can assist with long-term weight loss and maintenance. However, excessive amounts if not used by exercise and repair, will be converted to fat storage, so high protein is fine as long as you’re sticking to your daily energy needs and getting a variety of veggies in too.
Fat sources come from wholesome varieties including ghee, coconut oil, and olive oil. They are temperature tolerant, offer a source of nutrition, and help us absorb the fat-soluble nutrients in our food. They also slow down the digestion of our overall meal, helping to keep us feeling full and satisfied for a little longer.
The fat content ranges per meal from 4.1g to 37.7g. The latter amount featured in their keto-friendly range. Most meals sit with around 20-30g of fat.
Depending on your dietary needs and what you do each day, carbohydrate needs are very variable. They can even differ daily! Thr1ve offers a range of meals that are either keto-friendly (ultra low carb), light on carbs, or offer a more balanced plate. This allows you to choose what works for you and decide on a range of meals that suit your carbohydrate needs.
All carbs come from a mix of wholesome gluten free ingredients including starchy veggies such as sweet potato and potato, brown rice, quinoa and a little from the water-based veggies and sauces too.
While the ingredients used are gluten free, if you have Coeliac disease, unfortunately, the meals are labelled with a ‘May Contain’ statement for gluten. So they would not be suitable. Please check in with the Thr1ve team directly as this may get updated once this post goes live.
Have a sweet tooth? Looking for something savoury that isn’t carrot sticks? Thr1ve has you covered. And, on a side note, this is by FAR my favourite section of their menu haha. Perhaps it’s my unrelenting sweet tooth, or the fact that they’re nutrient-rich snacks and treats are actually really delicious!
You’ll find a mix of raw dessert bars, granola, protein powder for on the go, beef bars (yep, you read that right) from Chief, a variety of bliss balls, puffed sorghum, and other protein-packed snacks to easily keep you sustained until your next meal.
My personal favourite is ‘Nutessa’. I find a lot of raw treats look different but because of the same base ingredients, tend to taste much the same. Nutessa actually tastes like nutella. It’s gooood! They’re nutrient rich, and energy rich, so snack on half of one, or treat it as a dessert, as even though it’s packed with all the good stuff it still contains 264 calories, which can easily add up if you’re trying to reduce your waistline.
A note on the protein powder as well:
I’m not big on talking about calories as it’s only one component of healthy eating, and not really a major component. But, the protein powder has only 167 calories (that’s a great snack amount) and 28g of protein. It only has 2.8g of carbs and a surprising 4g of fibre.
For a good serve of calories/energy, that isn’t over the top, you get a high dose of protein, a good serve of fibre (not typical in protein powders). Plus, it’s not just protein! They’ve also added a whole range of other nutrients and ingredients in there including vitamin D, E, C and folate, selenium, zinc, calcium, magnesium, MCT oil, CLA, and flaxseed. I am honestly impressed!
It comes in vanilla and chocolate and is sweetened with stevia so it has no added sugar. Stevia is a bit take it or leave it for me. I’m not that keen on its aftertaste, and because the protein powder is whey concentrate and isolate, I didn’t personally try this one as I don’t tolerate dairy or whey too well. So the taste testing, which is personal preference anyway, is up to you!
That’s Great, But How Do They Taste?
The taste is good! Each dish has plenty of flavour and is cooked well. Nothing soggy or bland. Expect to enjoy the taste of home-cooked meals, without all the effort and tidy up. It’s not gourmet, but let’s face it, no meal that you reheat from a plastic container really is. And if you’re not a great cook, then maybe it is gourmet in comparison!
Will I Lose Weight?
Thr1ve have a particular protocol they invite you to follow that helps with weight loss. I am not endorsing it as I don’t actually know too much about it. But you can find out more on their website.
If you’re just looking for some convenient, healthy food options, then Thr1ve are your guys! Depending on the dishes you order, and what else you eat and drink alongside them, you can definitely lose weight or maintain your desired weight. However, it isn’t a diet program. If you’re looking for something like that, take a look at their protocol or speak with a health professional to determine your next move :)

Sponsorship note: While this is a sponsored post, you can bet your bottom dollar that I’m only ever going to tell you the facts and be honest with you. Because after all, what’s the point of misleading people into buying something that’s crap? I surely don’t want my name associated with that stuff either. You and I, we’re in this together, and just like you, I don’t want to waste my time or money on things that don’t do what they promise. These reviews are my way to help you shortcut the decision making process, by giving you unbiased, honest reviews. If I use it and love it, I’ll tell you about it. If it’s crap, it’s not going to get rave reviews. I’ll straight up tell you it’s rubbish.
