What diet does a Wholefood Dietitian recommend?
I’ve tried all kinds of diets over the years. I’ve been vegan, vegetarian, low carb, no carb, yeast free, gluten free, dairy free, paleo, and even dabbled (very briefly) with going raw. Sounds like that milk ad on tv, doesn’t it?!
FAD DIETS DON'T WORK
It’s like that these days.
There’s a diet for everything, a “lifestyle” to suit the way you want to eat. A label for what you can eat, what you can’t eat, and what you choose to avoid because doing so is the flavour of the month.
But what it all boils down to is just making the most of delicious, wholesome foods.
MARKETERS CHANGE YOUR PERCEPTION OF FOOD
I hate gimmicks. I really do. It’s why you’ll often find me blogging or posting on social about my #icallbluff’s. Debunking the marketing and 'health washing' in the media and on product packaging.
You see, the salespeople and marketers of this world are crazy clever. They’ve got the tools, technology, insights and data to practically read your mind. They tell you what you want to hear, what you want to read on the front of the package. Then they cleverly hide the truth or make it rather challenging to decipher.
This isn’t meant to deter you from ALL packaged foods. Nope. I’m saying that instead, you’ll know exactly what’s in your food and your health will improve if you simply prepare more of it yourself, from more items that don’t come from a packet.
THE KNOWLEDGE VS ACTION GAP
Sounds logical. And I bet you knew that already. But why doesn’t it happen? Why don’t we all just do more of that? There’s something missing. There’s that connection between the “what I should do” and the “how can I actually do this” that’s missing.
That’s why when Irena from the Happy Body Program asked me to be a guest on her expert panel and provide further insights about eating well (and the low Fodmap diet), I had to say yes. There's not enough real-world help out there. So many diets or "health regimes" are for the wealthy, or those with a backyard, or people doing the usual 9-5. But you're not usual. Neither am I. We all lead different lifestyles, have different values, shop differently, work different hours, and like different things.
That's ok. I don't want you to change. I have always worked WITH my clients, not against them with some ideal plan that is unrealistic. You don't need exotic berries from the amazon rainforest to be a healthy person. You don't need to enjoy kale. And you don't need to add powdered strangely-named mushrooms to your coffee replacement. Heck, you can even drink coffee everyday! The real stuff!
That's why the Happy Body Formula is so great. It's a 9-week online program that connects this gap and leaves out the nonsense.
So many of my key dietary philosophies are embedded into this program:
- No calorie counting
- Nutrient-dense, wholesome foods
- No starvation
- Quick and fun ways to keep your body moving
- Total wellness, not just a short-term diet
Plus, you’ve got expert coaches, a supportive community, and can track your progress with an app! It’s an awesome way to kickstart your health and discover the valuable tools and tips to keep you living a life you love, and ultimately - enjoy being you!
The last round of 2016 kicks off September 19th, and right now, the team are offering 30% off as an early bird special. Explore the program today, as this offer ends September 11th!
A side note: I normally don’t like promoting anything that has an end date - a 12-week program, a 30-day cleanse, a 2-week ‘bikini ready’ diet - it all screams "short-term gain, long-term confusion and back to square one shortly afterwards".
But I can honestly say that this program is different. You’ll learn how to maintain good health by making a healthier lifestyle work for YOU, finishing up feeling empowered, not lost.
That’s a program I’m proud to be a part of and will happily recommend.
